Yes, I wore this to school on Monday:
Zebra Leggings: Primark
Wig: ??
Zippered Skirt: Luella for Target
Top: ??
Brows and Lashes: Clinique long pretty lashes and lash doubling mascara in black (I had to darken the brows because the wig is basically black and I'm naturally pretty much blonde)
Eyes: Barry M liquid eyeliner in blue
Lips: Besame lipstick in Red
Philosophy:
Well, you can't expect to wear a 2-foot tall wig to school and go unnoticed, especially among a crowd of adolescents who seem not to understand the concept of wardrobe past jeans and a t-shirt, but somehow I am often very unprepared for the uncomprehending onlookers' questions. Confused, they ask me, "Why are you all dressed up?", "What's the occasion?", "Is that for drama?" (yes, I am in our school's Drama Company), "That's a wig, right?", and even "Are you Fuschia?"
Yes, the Fuschia one confused me, too. Apparently, she is a character with similar hair in The Rocky Horror Picture Show-- which I will be going to see this Saturday at midnight for the first time (and it's Alice in Wonderland themed!--I'm going as the Queen of Hearts!), and then I will know who Fuschia is.
In the past, I have often reverted to stock answers such as "Why not?", "Life IS an occasion!", "No...?", "Actually, it's a perm", and "Who's Fuschia?". However, this time I had an answer ready, primarily because it was true.
I don't plan things like this, usually. Sometimes I'll have an idea for an outfit and not get around to wearing it for a while, but I never let it get past the shred of an idea stage before I can actually put it on, because that ruins the creativity of the moment for me. For the same reason, I try not to repeat an outfit twice (other than with dresses, I've only ever done a perfect repeat once, and they were for different audiences). The night before I wore this, I had no plans-- I didn't even know we owned a wig like this! Turns out, my mother had originally been planning to be the Bride of Frankenstein for Halloween this year, but decided that the costume would not be "danceable" and therefor was disqualified from her list. By that time, however, she had already bought the wig. So I found it the night before and put it on with my pajamas, just for fun, and wore it around the house finishing up homework and such (which I really should be doing right now!), and while I was doing this, I had the crazy idea that maybe, just maybe, I could pull it off at school the next day. I thought about it: because I'd missed the first week of school being out for jaw surgery recovery, I had been granted the leftover seat in each class, in the very back row. That meant that I wouldn't have to worry about blocking the view of anyone behind me, and I knew there was no way that strange, tall wigs were against our dress code (seeing as we can wear flip flops and strapless shirts if we really want to and the water polo team even gets away with nothing but speedos on color day!), so I decided that I would wear it.
I admit, I had doubts the morning of as I was getting ready-- in fact, I almost decided not to wear it. I hate to admit that the three things that stopped me were 1) pride, 2) I hadn't washed my hair because I knew I'd be wearing a wig, and 3) I had already put black mascara on my eyebrows, and that was not coming off without at least a shower (and I had ten minutes before I had to be gone, essentially). In any case, I ended up wearing the whole ensemble, and with minor exceptions I recieved overwhelmingly positive reactions! This is definitely something I would like to do again for a different audience.
Telehugs and telesmooches,

P.S.- I forgot to tell you my answer to the questions! I had decided that I wasn't going to live through enough Halloweens to make it worth waiting for one each time I wanted to dress up. Luurve, Rickey <3

Am I the only girl out there who disagrees with the label that fetish shoes get? I think not.
I have to say, it slightly upsets me that the minute any girl dons a platform shoe (god forbid it should be sparkly or plastic!) mothers give their daughters another sex-talk and it's automatically assumed that she is looking for attention from guys, or worse yet, selling something. Cough.
So, I propose a protest! Of course, I have been wearing my go-go boots since the latter half of tenth grade, and that was enough for a while... but not anymore! I've been eyeing some of the Funtasma shoes (a Hallowe'en division of Pleaser) for quite some time, now, especially the pirate girl boots (6 & 9), and I just picked up a Funtasma pair secondhand the other day when I was in Oregon (and I'm wearing them right now, with my rainbow tutu! Pics Saturday, after SAT subject tests!), white patent leather Mary Janes with about a 5" heel and 3/4" platform, I'd guess-- for $15.00, and which just happened to fit perfectly! I deemed it fate and headed to the register, but being a girl (duh!), I NEED MORE!!! I was just now browsing The Electrique Boutique , a fetish costume and shoe store which carries Pleaser and their sub-companies (Demonia, Funtasma, etc.), Bordello, and other brands. Here are some of my faves:

1- Bordello Green Glitter Platform Boot by Bordello
2- Hot Pink High Wedge Spice Girl Platform Boot by Demonia
3- Mafia Costume Spectator Boot by Funtasma
4- Carnival Platform Pirate Costume Boot by Funtasma
5- Purple Concealed Glitter Platform Pump by Bordello
6- Sexy High Heel Deluxe Pirate Costume Boot by Funtasma
7- White Gaga Lady Stretch High Heel Gogo Boots by Pleaser
8- Sexy White High Heel Halloween Costume Boot by Jante
9- Sexy High Heel Deluxe Pink Pirate Costume Boot by Funtasma
10- Hot Pink Open Toe Knee High Platform Boot by Pleaser
11- Queen Of Hearts Costume Maryjane Pump by Pleaser
12- Anne Michelle Moto-X-02 Ankle Boot Black Multi

These pictures are from the same week that I wore the moustache. My style that entire week was sort of androgynous- from faux facial hair to ties and bowler hats, and I wore my Dad's oversize stiff denim jacket twice (sorry, no pictures!)- once with purple jewel encrusted jeans and once with a mini-dress and tights (the jacket was longer than the dress, reminds me of the CAKE song!)
Pink Straight Jeans: Target
Pink Heels: thrifted
White Button-Down: Primark
Shoe-print Tie: thrifted
Black Bowler: Target
Skull Bracelets: carnival prize
And here's the makeup:
Simple, but bright. Other than basic foundation, the only things I wore were clinique long pretty lashes mascara in black and Barry M pink dazzle dust eyeshadow (applied wet with an angled liner brush).

Okay, so. I subscribe to Garrison Keillor's daily poetry email called The Writer's Almanac, and just read mine for today. It so happens that today is Edward P. Jones's birthday, and so it included something that he said:
"If you write a story today, and you get up tomorrow and start another story, all the expertise that you put into the first story doesn't transfer over automatically to the second story. You're always starting at the bottom of the mountain. So you're always becoming a writer. You're never really arriving."

I know you're probably wondering what happened to version 1. It just got accidentally deleted when I clicked "settings" instead of "publish".
Since I have two nights worth of homework to do right now, I'll just leave it at saying that many exciting things have happened, are happening, and will be happening, and you will have to wait until tomorrow at the very least to hear much more about them. I'll include some exciting foreshadowing:
rainbow tutu *glittery foreshadowing glitter* makeup
lime crime glitter stripper shoes
cousins life decisions
bride of frankenstein wig *glittery foreshadowing glitter*
oregon fiftieth anniversary + yummy cake national merit
I can also guarantee that by tomorrow, I won't remember what half those things are supposed to remind me to tell you about. Also, that I probably won't have time to blog tomorrow, so that by the time I do blog again, you'll probably only get about twenty per cent of the intended value. Sorry-- talk to my stupid web host that hasn't figured out how to conveniently place a "submit" button.
At least I remember my fabulous ending salutation:
Tons of telesmooches and two-dozen enchanted, tap-dancing trousers,

Okay, so yesterday I teased you with the practice makeup for my getup on the 24th, and today you get to see the whole ensemble! Here it is, a full body and a close-up of the shoes. The makeup turned out better this time, and I feel bad for not taking a photo of it, but I figured you'd already seen it. Everything was much more defined than the practice.
Aren't those shoes FFaVulous? I bought them when I was in Tombstone, Arizona a year or two ago, and although the seams in the leather down the back do rub in to my calves (and hurt a lot) a piece of tape on the skin there will do the trick and they are surprisingly easy to walk in.
Everybody at school absolutely adored my 'stache. In fact, the only people who had anything bad to say about it were my mother and my grandmother, which really is a shame-- it is nice when we actually agree on something. However, despite my mother being somehow slightly frightened, she is somewhat understanding. As in, whatever she may have said, she still let me out of the house. Which is good. So.
Well, I get home this evening, so maybe I'll post something then.

It's only the 23rd as I'm writing this, but you have to have something to read while I'm gone! (Assuming there's anyone there. Uck- I am so cynical.)
So, yes... I am so obsessed with making up and so bored that I am practicing tomorrow's makeup tonight. Wow, I'm insane. Ah, well. This was inspired partially by Doe Deere and partially by one of her commenters. Someone commented on the "Is Me over at 30" article and mentioned that they had painted on a villain moustache at one point during the summer, which I decided was brilliant. And, then I used Doe's tutorial for heart lips.
I used black liquid eyeliner (any will do) not on my eyes, but as moustache and goatee
clinique blush in ihavenoideawhatcolor
clinique mascara in long pretty lashes and lash doubling (black). this was actually on my eyelashes where it typically goes.
clinique coverup in light
covergirl lip stain in bright red (don't know actual name of color, sorry)
That's it!

Okay. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is one of the freshest bands I've heard in a long time. I love them!

Above is Mette Lindberg, the lead singer. She gives the coolest spin on the vocals making words sound like entirely new words... and is altogether beyond my description. Listen to my favorite song by them-- I'm holding out to buy a hard copy of the album, but had to buy this one song just because it was so absolutely fabulous--
And even if you somehow don't like their music, you have to like her leopard pants, right?

I've been meaning to do this for forever, so here's a treat while I'm on my way to Oregon. These are most of the exciting makeup looks and a few of the outfits I wore in Oxford this summer. Most of the pictures I have of myself there are OF my makeup, because I kept forgetting to ask people to take pictures of me in all the important places!
A fun but entirely random picture of my hand and foot on the ground outside pembroke library. The skull bracelets are from the fun fair (summer fundraiser for the schools here), the green one is permanently borrowed from my dear friend and sortof sister Princess Naked As A Jaybird, the blue and silver one is a hand-me-down from my grandmother, the millefiori (that's the word for that style of Murano glasswork, the one with the flowers there) bracelet from the Huntington Library and Gardens and also a gift from my grandmother, the clear and silver one a gift from the one and only MaryJeanica (and though you can't see from here is adorned with handbags, angels, and skull charms), and the colorful plastic one I made myself.
The flower ring I bought at some store on Melrose, the clasped hands ring (the far one) was a souvenir from a castle on my previous trip to England, and the peace sign ring is a gift from my OTHER grandmother in Texas.
The clear converse and octopus socks were gifts from the gods.

This is my makeup for karaoke night (I would like to take this time to mention that I sang the hell out of Dolly Parton's "9 to 5", consequently winning-- okay, okay, it was a tie with a girl named Devon who sang "One of Us" by ABBA-- consequently winning the karaoke contest. If you notice the crease, this was with my old makeup, before I knew the wonders of good makeup. Before I bought my Barry M. I think I bought my first two colors (lime and gold), like, the next day or something.
This is my eye makeup for the talent show. It took place at the Catholic Chaplaincy just down St Aldates St. from Pembroke college in the last week of the program. I used my Barry M in gold, black liquid eyeliner (yes, I use riteaid) as liner and as the leopard spots, clinique lash doubling mascara in black, and some purple glitter eyeliner that I bought for a pound at Primark and still use. Other than simply to enjoy life, the reason I spent so much effort on my eyes for the talent show is that I was performing two original songs, one of which you can watch the video for on my music myspace: www.myspace.com/lovelywednesdaymusic/
My Alice in Wonderland look for Broughton Castle. Dear Gillian told me I reminded her of little bo peep, and when I told her I was going for Alice, she said, "Oh, well I was going to say that first but I didn't think we could possibly be on the same train of thought..." or something like that, anyway.
The j'adorable (new word!) clock earrings are from Monsoon Accessorize (that really is a great store when they're having a sale!), the pink bow (which you can't really see) is from Primark (I bought so much stuff there...hehe), the lipstick is clinique Ice Bloom, the blush is clinique in some color or another, and the eyes are Barry M in a blue the name of which I don't know (and which, to my deep dismay, I believe I left in England for some other happy person to find), Barry M in gold, clinique mascara, that same glitter eyeliner in bright blue, and... that's it. Here's the full outfit:
I think there must be a way to turn these pictures the right way. In the meantime (until I figure it out), you can turn your head. I have the ultimate faith in you.
The last time I ever got to wear the pretty blue eyeshadow. On my way to the airport, literally in the bus. Wearing the gold, lime, parrot green, and blue Barry M's. Sorry it's blurry!
The next England post will have pictures of Oxford itself and me in important places. The one AFTER that (drumroll)... will have the makeup and outfit that I wore to the '80s dance. They may not have had a costume contest there, but I did get a date out of it!
Lalalalove and Lalalaluck,
