Yes, I wore this to school on Monday:
Zebra Leggings: Primark
Wig: ??
Zippered Skirt: Luella for Target
Top: ??
Brows and Lashes: Clinique long pretty lashes and lash doubling mascara in black (I had to darken the brows because the wig is basically black and I'm naturally pretty much blonde)
Eyes: Barry M liquid eyeliner in blue
Lips: Besame lipstick in Red
Philosophy:
Well, you can't expect to wear a 2-foot tall wig to school and go unnoticed, especially among a crowd of adolescents who seem not to understand the concept of wardrobe past jeans and a t-shirt, but somehow I am often very unprepared for the uncomprehending onlookers' questions. Confused, they ask me, "Why are you all dressed up?", "What's the occasion?", "Is that for drama?" (yes, I am in our school's Drama Company), "That's a wig, right?", and even "Are you Fuschia?"
Yes, the Fuschia one confused me, too. Apparently, she is a character with similar hair in The Rocky Horror Picture Show-- which I will be going to see this Saturday at midnight for the first time (and it's Alice in Wonderland themed!--I'm going as the Queen of Hearts!), and then I will know who Fuschia is.
In the past, I have often reverted to stock answers such as "Why not?", "Life IS an occasion!", "No...?", "Actually, it's a perm", and "Who's Fuschia?". However, this time I had an answer ready, primarily because it was true.
I don't plan things like this, usually. Sometimes I'll have an idea for an outfit and not get around to wearing it for a while, but I never let it get past the shred of an idea stage before I can actually put it on, because that ruins the creativity of the moment for me. For the same reason, I try not to repeat an outfit twice (other than with dresses, I've only ever done a perfect repeat once, and they were for different audiences). The night before I wore this, I had no plans-- I didn't even know we owned a wig like this! Turns out, my mother had originally been planning to be the Bride of Frankenstein for Halloween this year, but decided that the costume would not be "danceable" and therefor was disqualified from her list. By that time, however, she had already bought the wig. So I found it the night before and put it on with my pajamas, just for fun, and wore it around the house finishing up homework and such (which I really should be doing right now!), and while I was doing this, I had the crazy idea that maybe, just maybe, I could pull it off at school the next day. I thought about it: because I'd missed the first week of school being out for jaw surgery recovery, I had been granted the leftover seat in each class, in the very back row. That meant that I wouldn't have to worry about blocking the view of anyone behind me, and I knew there was no way that strange, tall wigs were against our dress code (seeing as we can wear flip flops and strapless shirts if we really want to and the water polo team even gets away with nothing but speedos on color day!), so I decided that I would wear it.
I admit, I had doubts the morning of as I was getting ready-- in fact, I almost decided not to wear it. I hate to admit that the three things that stopped me were 1) pride, 2) I hadn't washed my hair because I knew I'd be wearing a wig, and 3) I had already put black mascara on my eyebrows, and that was not coming off without at least a shower (and I had ten minutes before I had to be gone, essentially). In any case, I ended up wearing the whole ensemble, and with minor exceptions I recieved overwhelmingly positive reactions! This is definitely something I would like to do again for a different audience.
Telehugs and telesmooches,

P.S.- I forgot to tell you my answer to the questions! I had decided that I wasn't going to live through enough Halloweens to make it worth waiting for one each time I wanted to dress up. Luurve, Rickey <3
